The Drive In Movie Band - 2021 - “Lines & Circles"

(27:01; Melodic Revolution Records)

***+

Although there are quite a few musicians listed on this six-track instrumental album, the vast majority only contribute here and there, so primarily this is multi-instrumentalist Ron Marquiss and his son, drummer Jordan. In many ways I found this quite a difficult album to listen to as to my ears there is just too much repetition within each song, and not enough direction and flow. The additional musicians definitely add something, and I would have preferred to have heard more violin, while the title cut is one of the more interesting as the vocal interjection makes us think there is more going on. Jordan is a fine drummer, working hard behind the kit, but musically the rest does not really stack up for me and it does come across very much as a solo project as opposed to a band. This is not a very long release, only 27 minutes and I believe only available digitally, and while others do seem to rate this quite highly it is too middle of the road for me to return to.
