(40:41; Lost World Band) ![]() ![]() ‘Remission’ is the second re-recorded album originally from 1996, and joining Vassili Soloviev (flute), Andy Didorenko (violin, guitars, backing vocals) and Alex Akimov (keyboards) we again have singer Brian Paley along with singer Phoebe Carter and drummer Jordan McQueen, both of whom were also on LWB’s 2024 album ‘A Moment of Peace’, plus Sergey Didorenko (saxophone) and Yuliya Basis (backing vocals). This is actually not the first time this album has been revisited, as it was originally released in 1994 (the band’s only concept to date), but back then it was felt it didn’t truly work as intended so was re-recorded in 1996 with Aleksei Rybakov on vocals. This time around the flute and saxophone are preserved from the 1996 four track tapes, but the rest has been totally rerecorded and the lyrics translated into English. This album feels very different indeed from ‘The Dawn’, which presumably is because the original was released somewhat earlier, and feels far more angular and less polished. There are more overtly classical influences as well, while Andy’s brother Sergey plays a major part on “Lullaby”, and the album feels much more to be Alexander’s than Andy’s, with a great deal of piano and organ with Andy then coming in over the top. It feels more Russian, choppy and punchy with deliciously dreamy interludes, and feels much more of its time. It is very interesting to play this and ‘The Dawn’ back-to-back as they are both thoroughly enjoyable, but show very different sides of the band, and it is good that the new recordings have not tried to make this into ‘The Dawn Pt. II’ which would have been a very easy thing to do indeed. Brian and Phoebe’s vocals are again real highlights, with “Under Broken Skies” being a real case in point, dramatic and powerful. This album shows another side to LWB and is again a thoroughly enjoyable album. Progtector: May 2026
