Lelio Padovani - 2010 - "Electronic"

(32:22, 'Padovani')

*****

The Italian composer, guitarist and guitar tutor Lelio PADOVANI has been a visible feature in the Italian music scene for just about a decade now, issuing his solo debut back in 2002 and releasing a steady stream of material since. While his previous effort, "Chasing the Muse" from 2007, explored a style of music that was close to Joe Satriani's most melodic efforts, we're treated to a somewhat different musical landscape this time around. Atmospheric guitar soloing is still a vital part of these compositions, but this time they are backed by carefully crafted layers of synths and keyboards, often featuring multiple dampened textures partially reflecting and partially building under the main motif explored. In addition, both piano and other keys are utilized as solo instruments besides the guitar. While perhaps not overly complex, these efforts have been constructed with finesse to produce a melodic and often distinctly cinematic atmosphere. In terms of associations, imagine the more accessible part of Tangerine Dream's output blended with early Satriani. Highly enjoyable from start to finish, and recommended to those who might find such a venture intriguing.
