BANDS & PERFORMERS:

Gong
(UK/France/USA) / Agst 23, 2009

Latest news:

The celebrated psychedelic rock band Gong has announced the world premiere of their brand new Japanese animated video ‘How To Stay Alive’, taken from their highly anticipated forthcoming new studio album “2032” (released 21-st September). Click here to watch the new promo video. The video is a wonderful manga animation of Daevid Allen's drawings undertaken by the cutting edge Japanese Tokyo-based animation team “Mood Magic”, who were responsible for System 7's ‘Hinotori’ video (2008). In line with the “2032” album, the video pushes all the classic Gong buttons and mixes them with bang up to date sounds and video techniques. The track features a rap by Daevid Allen based around the characters of the illustrious Planet Gong mythology, which lent itself well to an animation of the drawings – and also features a beautiful solo at the end by original Gong member Didier Malherbe on the sax-like Armenian instrument the duduk. Gong embarks on a nationwide UK tour at the Bristol 02 Academy on 19-th November, with the Steve Hillage Band confirmed as support act on all UK dates.

The collaboration between Paris and Keeling began several years ago with the culmination of their songwriting styles blossoming into melodic rock/pop political and relationship-based songs.

Led Bib
(UK) / Agst 23, 2009

Latest news:

Cuneiform Records is proud to announce that their new CD, Sensible Shoes by the British group Led Bib, was yesterday, July 21st, announced on the short-list for the Barclaycard Mercury Prize's 2009 "Album of the Year". The prestigious Mercury Prize is of ground-shaking importance within the UK, and has been called the United Kingdom's "most influential music award". Unlike the UK's Brit Awards, which concentrate on more commercially successful acts and is more widely known in the US, the Mercury Prize is devoted to celebrating quality. It is given to the CD that a panel of experts feels is the best album of the year by a UK artist, regardless of musical genre, position on radio charts, or sales numbers. Previous Mercury winners include the Arctic Monkeys, Pulp, PJ Harvey, Dizzee Rascal and Franz Ferdinand. Previous Mercury shortlisted nominees include Radiohead, The Jesus and Mary Chain, U2, Blur, Oasis, The Chemical Brothers, David Bowie, Belle & Sebastian, Robert Wyatt, John Surman, M.I.A. and Muse. On July 21st, the panel announced its short list for the prize – the 12 best albums of 2009 by UK artists. In announcing its shortlist, the Mercury Prize noted that: "The 2009 Mercury Prize Albums of the Year represent exciting times in music from the UK and Ireland. As well as big names who've made an impact all over the world there are young, up and coming artists who make music that's exciting, inventive and implicitly indigenous. ...There's also the marked return of the classic Rock band, with some of the biggest names on the circuit accounted for courtesy of bold, brave albums." The 12 nominees will perform and the winner of the award will be announced in a ceremony in London on Tuesday, September 8th, broadcast nationally on BBC Two, Radio 1 and Radio 2. To see the BBC's announcement of Led Bib's nomination and a video of the band's reactions after being awarded a spot on the shortlist, click here. Since being released by Cuneiform in May, their CD Sensible Shoes has garnered an avalanche of favorable press in the UK and worldwide.

RECORDING COMPANIES:

10T Records
(USA) / Agst 23, 2009

New release:

  • Various Artists (International) – “10T: Undercover”

10T Records is excited to announce the pending release of the CD “Undercover” on September 15, 2009. “Undercover” is the label’s first compilation project, featuring never before heard performances from the 10T roster of artists. The concept behind “Undercover” is simple. The label asked each of its artists to select a song by another artist that was influential in the development of their own musical identity; a composition that might not sound exactly like what that 10T Records artist has evolved into, but one that significantly inspired their creativity at some point in their musical past. The mission was then to not simply do a faithful cover of that song, but to reinterpret the tune such that it represented where the artists musically find themselves currently.
    “10T: Undercover” track listing:

  • FROM.UZ - Starless and Bible Black (King Crimson)
  • THE VITAL MIGHT - Sleeping Beauty (A Perfect Circle)
  • LITTLE ATLAS - Battle of Evermore (Led Zeppelin)
  • MAN ON FIRE - Visions of China (Japan)
  • FROGG CAFE - The Dance of Maya (Mahavishnu Orchestra)
  • BOLT - Das Model (Kraftwerk)
  • FLUTTR EFFECT - The Chauffeur (Duran Duran)
  • EVERYTHING IN SEVEN - Man on the Corner (Genesis)
  • ELF PROJECT - Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun (Pink Floyd)
  • THE REBEL WHEEL - Cross Eyed Mary (Jethro Tull)
  • STEVE KATSIKAS - The Best Laid Plans (Kevin Gilbert)
